The Florida Man Games™ is Coming to the TV Screen
ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida (January 21, 2025) – The Florida Man Games™ celebrates the few, the bold, the unabashedly Florida men and women who put it all on the line at what has to be the most insane athletic competition around. This year, ten teams, plus some yet-to-be-discovered hopefuls from the crowd, will duke it out for the coveted gator skin belt. Weird, kind of insane, but pretty entertaining, right? Mulleted fans aren’t the only ones who think so. Producers have been calling, and The Florida Man Games™ is getting ready to head to a television screen soon.
“The Florida Man Games™ will be televised,” says Pete Melfi, Founder and Commissioner of The Florida Man Games™. “There has been a lot of interest in making this a TV series; producers and studios have been calling since the day after the first event. I'm still getting calls from major production companies, on average, probably twice a month at least. We're close to a deal with one of the best production companies around, with popular recent specials on Netflix, ESPN and more; they're the real deal.”
The Florida Man Games™ stormed onto the scene in 2024, with events taken straight from the headlines. Teams vied for glory, competing in events like the Evading Arrest Obstacle Course and Beer Belly Sumo Wrestling, with team Hanky Spanky out of St. Augustine coming out on top. It became a viral sensation, appearing in global headlines and drawing spectators from across the United States, South America, Europe, and Australia. Round 2 is fixing to be even bigger, even better, and even more Florida, with new events like Hurricane Party Prep: Grocery Aisle Brawl and Human Beer Pong, hosts Josh @omgitswicks Robinson and Kevin @floridaman Flynn, and the Games’ first all-women team (more to come on that soon). All of these straight-from-the-swamp shenanigans are going to make for some riveting screentime.
When asked what a Florida Man Games™ television show would look like, Melfi said, "I think there are a lot of ways we could go with a TV show. A docuseries where TV crews follow the competitors as they train leading up to the games. A Jackass meets Gladiators sports series, or maybe a reality show. These guys are all as real and as Florida as it gets, so it makes a lot of sense that this would be one hell of an entertaining televised show.”
The Florida Man Games™ is scheduled for Saturday, March 1st, at the St. Johns County Fairgrounds, 5840 FL-207 E in Elkton, Florida.
